Meet President Dog

Hi, team! As promised, I'd like to do a few updates that preview some of the characters and comics that will be featured in the book. So I thought I'd start with our cover star: President Dog!
I had a little trouble deciding whether to feature President Dog or Baker the Corgi on the cover, since they both star in a big chunk of the comics inside. But ultimately, VOTE DOG was too great a book title to resist. (And Baker made for a great corner-chewing element.)
I've been drawing comics about President Dog since 2015. The comic below is actually his very first appearance, reworked and colourized for our book:
President Dog is not one of those cartoon dogs that can talk (like Scooby Doo), or that thinks in English words (like Snoopy). He is just a regular dog. Some people have asked me asked how exactly he wound up being President. The answer is simple! He was elected. He is a very good boy.
VOTE DOG contains a bunch of stand-alone strips about President Dog executing the various duties of his office... meeting foreign leaders, mastering social media, you name it. But it includes a few longer President Dog stories, too! One is a brand new one that I'm making just for the book. In another, President Dog: Armageddon, he leads the nation during a potentially devastating meteor strike. And in President Dog: Election Season, he faces his greatest political rival: Candidate Cat.
Election Season is the longest President Dog story I've done. It contains a page I'm particularly fond of: one where President Dog runs away to find America.
I am very fond of President Dog. (And not just because I modeled him loosely after Mac, a real life Labrador retriever who is often sitting next to me while I draw.) I'm very excited about the prospect of all his comics finding a home in this book, and I'm glad you are, too!
And if you think there's anyone else in your life who'd appreciate President Dog, by all means, send 'em here to enjoy this little preview. The President can use all the support he can get!
Thanks again, everyone! 'Til the next update,
-Sam
